Reflect and Look Ahead
What are your expectations for this program? What do you hope to accomplish?
I believe strongly that personal/professional learning communities are incredibly valuable. I am a member of many online communities and I gain a lot from my interactions with others. After reading all of the introductions of my classmates, I expect that I will learn a great deal from all of them. We have a diverse group, but we also have much in common.
I also expect to learn a great deal from the instructors. I'm sure that the coursework will be extensive and that I will guide a lot of my own learning. I look forward to gaining knowledge about a variety of aspects related to educational administration.
Now that you have a good sense of the types of online activities and the rhythms of an active participant, what steps will you take to be successful in this program?
The opportunity to learn how to navigate the Electronic Learning Community was very valuable. It is great to do that before you are actually enrolled in a class. I was able to figure out where to find things, how to keep myself organized to finish assignments and the best way to approach interactions with others in the course.
I believe that it will be challenging to keep up with all the work. I plan to utilize some of the tools in the ELC to keep me organized. The Weekly checklist will be something that I will refer to often. I will also use the email subscription for certain discussions/news in order to give myself an added reminder to check on new posts. I also think that planning for certain "work times" during the week will allow me to complete tasks on time and revisit discussions to continue interacting with teammates and other classmates.
Where do you still need additional support to be successful?
I can't think of anything I need now, but I'm sure the support of my instructors and teammates will be needed when we start the courses.

Hi Karen-
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear you are feeling more comfortable and confident using the ELC. As the weeks go by, this tool will become second nature to how you do your course work. It is wonderful to hear that this orientation has been a positive new learning experience for you. You are well on your way to be an excellent online learner
You have a great network of people here in the course; which I think you have seen already in two short weeks. Everyone has a lot of experience and strengthens to share. Effective and ongoing communication is essential in these online courses. Be sure to reach out to your classmates, instructor or folks at JHU if you need assistance. Everyone is there to ensure your success. Best of luck to you!
